I don’t know if this is serious talk or not, because it would reduce the quality of competition in the playoffs. We have already had a 7–win division winner (Seattle in 2010, Carolina in 2014), and many 8–8 division winners, but there have also been plenty of 9–7 wild card teams. Going to a third Wild Card team would probably risk another .500 or sub-500 team. Consider the 2015 season where the 8–8 Falcons were the best team to miss the playoffs, with two wild-cards at 10–6 in the NFC.
