Flea and Claypool are both funky bassists who are very good with improvising and have acheived well-earned success for their talent. However, Flea is a more traditional funk bassist with punk and jazz influences. He's also a more minimal bassist who focuses a lot on pentatonic scales to make rock a bit more funky and 'commercialy-suitable'.

Claypool applies very unusual and very humerous playing with lots of chords, minor scales, incredibly difficult techniques, and much more complex slapping. He's also more a fan of experimental music, progressive rock, and metal, completly different to Flea's influences.
